Tuesday I was able to get in a ride, covering 25.45 miles and wearing me down more than expected. I took Wednesday, Thursday and involuntarily Friday off to recover after realizing that pushing myself much too hard was taking a toll on me. I noticed a higher resting heart rate and made myself stay out of the saddle. Today's ride was much easier to deal with, less wind and more time to work made for a great workout. I am having some minor back pain, and some cyclist palsy in my hands, but I am alright other than those things. I am thinking a 20 mile ride for tomorrow due to extreme heat. I don't want to get sick right now and a bout of heat exhaustion is just what could bring me down.
My Wife let me get my birthday present early this year, she got me a new pair of cycling glasses with interchangeable lenses, and a second 24oz insulated bottle which was her way of keeping me safe in the heat. I also got a new lock so that when I finish the Tour de Rock I can lock up the bike and party with the family at the cookout, and enjoy the live music! I am not so sure that I will be able to complete the 50 course if it has many hills, but I will do my best to stay away from the Sag wagon. My Wife always teases me about the Saggy Wagon because she likes the name and thinks it would be a cool way to finish a race. I can't figure out how to make her understand it is much less glamourous than it sounds.
I will try to post again tomorrow after my training ride, if not you will hear from me again prior to the Tour de Rock which is on June 11. Make sure you make a donation to support this great cause.
